Visiting Hamat Healthcare

Do you accept SHA and private insurance?
Yes. We serve SHA (Social Health Authority) patients and are empanelled with CIC Group, Kenbright, Kenyan Alliance and MUA, among others. Carry your card and ID — our front desk will confirm your cover in minutes.
Are you really open 24 hours?
Yes — our Membley hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays. Emergency care, laboratory and pharmacy are always available.
How do I book an appointment?
Call or WhatsApp us on +254 721 600700, use the booking form on this website, or simply walk in. For specialist clinics we recommend booking ahead so we can reserve your preferred time.
Do you offer home visits?
Yes. Our home-based care program brings doctors, nurses and physiotherapists to your home — from one-off sick visits to structured long-term geriatric care plans.
Can I get medicines delivered?
Yes. Order through our pharmacy page or WhatsApp. A licensed pharmacist verifies every prescription, and delivery is free for orders of KSh 2,000 and above.
Where exactly is Hamat Healthcare located?
Hamat Healthcare is on the Eastern Bypass Road at the PCEA Membley junction, in Membley Estate, Ruiru, Kiambu County. If you are driving along the Eastern Bypass, look for the blue HOSPITAL and CHEMIST signage. We also have a presence on Riverside Drive, Nairobi, by appointment.
Can I deliver my baby at Hamat Healthcare?
Yes. Our maternity unit supports you from the first antenatal visit through delivery and postnatal care, including caesarean section in our own operating theatre. Newborns are seen by a consultant paediatrician, and we run well-baby and immunisation clinics afterwards.
Do you admit patients overnight?
Yes. We have inpatient wards on site, so patients who need admission after an emergency, an operation or a delivery are cared for here rather than being transferred. Where tertiary care is required we arrange referral to a partner hospital in Nairobi.
Do you have a laboratory, and how quickly do results come back?
Yes — we run a licensed diagnostic laboratory on site covering haematology, biochemistry, microbiology and serology. Most routine results are ready during the same visit and are sent straight to your clinician, so treatment can usually start the same day.
Is there a paediatrician for children?
Yes. Our paediatric service is led by a consultant paediatrician and intensivist, covering well-baby checks, immunisation, everyday childhood illness and complex or critical cases.
Do you perform surgery and endoscopy?
Yes. We have a fully functional operating theatre. Our general surgeon and endoscopist performs day-case minor surgery, general surgical operations and both diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring your national ID and your SHA or private insurance card if you have one, plus any previous prescriptions, test results or discharge summaries. Arriving about 15 minutes early gives us time for registration and triage.

General Practice & Outpatient

Do I need an appointment to see a GP at Hamat Healthcare?
No. Walk-ins are welcome at any hour of the day or night. Booking ahead online, by phone or on WhatsApp simply reserves a time that suits you.
Can a GP manage my diabetes or blood pressure long-term?
Yes. Our chronic disease clinics review diabetes, hypertension and asthma regularly, adjust your medication and arrange the tests you need — and our pharmacy can deliver your refills.
Do you do medical examinations for work?
Yes, including pre-employment medicals. Bring your national ID and any forms your employer has given you.
What happens if I need a specialist?
Your GP refers you to one of our resident consultants — in paediatrics, geriatric medicine, or general surgery and endoscopy — or to a visiting specialist clinic. Your records go with you.

Maternal & Child Health

When should I start antenatal care?
As early as you can — ideally as soon as you know you are pregnant, and within the first 12 weeks. Early visits let us confirm your dates, run baseline tests and plan your care.
Can I have a caesarean section at Hamat Healthcare?
Yes. Caesarean sections are performed in our own operating theatre on site, which stands ready for the maternity unit around the clock.
Is there a paediatrician for my newborn?
Yes. Dr. Adnaan Mustafa, our consultant paediatrician and intensivist, leads care for newborns and children — from well-baby checks to complex illness.
Do you run immunisation clinics?
Yes. We run well-baby and immunisation clinics. Bring your child’s Mother & Child Health booklet to every visit.

Surgery & Endoscopy

What is an endoscopy, and why might I need one?
An endoscopy uses a thin, flexible camera to look inside the digestive tract. It helps find the cause of symptoms such as persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain or bleeding — and some problems can be treated during the same procedure.
How do I prepare for an endoscopy?
You will usually be asked not to eat for several hours beforehand, and for some procedures to take a preparation the day before. We give you clear instructions when you book — follow those rather than general advice.
Will I stay in hospital after surgery?
It depends on the operation. Minor procedures are usually day-case, so you go home the same day. After larger operations you recover on our inpatient wards with attentive nursing care.
Who performs the operations?
Our general surgeon and endoscopist, Dr. Hassan Bharmal, leads the surgical and endoscopy service.

Laboratory & Diagnostics

How quickly will I get my lab results?
Most routine results are ready during the same visit and go straight to your clinician, so treatment can usually begin the same day. Some specialised tests take longer — the lab will tell you when to expect them.
Do I need to fast before a blood test?
Only for some tests. A fasting blood sugar test needs at least 8 hours without food (plain water is fine). Most people no longer need to fast for a cholesterol (lipid) test, though your doctor may ask you to in some cases. Your clinician or our lab team will tell you if fasting is needed and for how long.
Is the laboratory open at night?
Yes. The laboratory supports our 24-hour casualty and wards, so tests can be done at any hour.
Can I do a pre-employment medical here?
Yes. Bring your national ID and any forms your employer has given you.

Geriatric & Home-Based Care

Who is home-based care for?
Older people who find it hard to travel to hospital, people living with long-term conditions, and anyone recovering at home after an illness, an operation or a stroke.
How does home-based care start?
With a comprehensive assessment by our geriatrician. From there we agree a personal care plan with the family — visit schedule, medication, therapy and monitoring — and review it as needs change.
Can you do a one-off home visit?
Yes. As well as long-term care plans, we arrange one-off sick visits at home.
How will I know how my parent is doing?
Families receive an honest report after every visit, and our 24-hour line means help is always one call away.

Specialist Consultation

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
No. You can book a consultant directly online, by phone or on WhatsApp — or your GP can refer you during a visit.
Which specialists are resident at Hamat Healthcare?
Dr. Tasneem Yamani (consultant geriatrician), Dr. Adnaan Mustafa (consultant paediatrician and intensivist) and Dr. Hassan Bharmal (general surgeon and endoscopist), alongside visiting specialist clinics.
When do visiting specialists hold clinics?
Visiting clinics run on a schedule that changes through the year. Call or WhatsApp +254 721 600700 for the current timetable.

Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Can physiotherapy be done at home?
Yes. Our physiotherapists visit patients at home through our home-based care programme — especially helpful after surgery or a stroke, or for older people who find travel difficult.
How soon after surgery can I start physiotherapy?
Your surgeon will advise when it is safe to start. Because our surgical and physiotherapy teams work under one roof, your rehabilitation plan follows your surgeon’s guidance from the beginning.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition and your goals. After your first assessment, your physiotherapist explains the plan and reviews your progress at every session.

Pharmacy & Telemedicine

Can I order medicines online from Hamat Healthcare?
Yes. Use the order form on our pharmacy page or send your order on WhatsApp. A licensed pharmacist checks every prescription before it is dispensed.
Do you deliver medicines?
Yes — delivery is free on orders of KSh 2,000 and above. You can also collect at the hospital at any hour.
Do I need a prescription?
For prescription-only medicines such as antibiotics, yes — share your prescription with your order. Over-the-counter items do not need one.
What is a telemedicine consultation?
A video appointment with one of our clinicians from home or the office. It suits follow-ups, chronic care reviews and second opinions — but not emergencies, which should come straight to casualty.
